RIXC Fields residency, Greenhouse for artistic growing experiments and research.
RIXC announces the call for the Latvian artists (1 artist, August, 2025) and Baltic artists (1 artist, November-December, 2025)!

In 2025, a new RIXC Immersive Art and Nature residency program is taking place in collaboration with partners: Zone Sound Creative (Taiwan), Photinus Studio (Ukraine) and NAIA Naturally Artificial Intelligence Art Association (Germany). The new program will host Taiwanese, Ukrainian, German and Baltic artists, and the call for artists of each region is announced by each partner of the respective region.
We welcome proposals by artists who work in the fields of digital art, immersive technologies: XR/VR/AR/AI (augmented reality/virtual reality/augmented reality/artificial intelligence), data visualization and sonification, machine learning and others.
The residency program aims to create socio-ecological connections, integrating nature and the latest immersive technologies and blurring the boundaries between technology and nature.
Residencies
The residencies, 1-2-months each for artist/s from the respective region, take place at RIXC in Riga, Latvia and RIXC Fields residency (in rural area, near Talsi, Latvia), during the time period from June, 2025 until December, 2025.
(1) June, 2025
French and German artist residency, in collaboration with Goethe Institut in Riga and French institute in Latvia. Within the framework of the Resonance collaboration project (confirmed)

(2) July–August, 2025
German artist residency (call in collaboration with NAIA, confirmed)
(3) August, 2025
Latvian artist residency (for 1 artist). CALL OPEN!

(4) September–October, 2025
Taiwanese artist residency (call on-going, confirmed soon by Zone Sound Creative)

(6) November–December, 2025
Ukrainian artist residency. (call in collaboration with Photinus Studio, confirmed).
Each of the two-month periods of the residency is intended for the artist creative research, local expert engagement, professional contact establishment and local media networking in the sphere of art and science. The artists will be also supported to carry out their individual artistic researches and creative experiments, collaborate with the scientists and local artists.
By opening up residency opportunities for local and international artists, working with science and digital technologies, RIXC aims to support new knowledge creation and innovative artistic productions in Europe and globally.
RIXC Residency Studio (in Riga)
RIXC Center and RIXC Residency apartment location, Riga.
The residency programme offers two residency accommodations. RIXC Residency apartment is located right next to the RIXC Gallery on Lencu iela 2, City Center of Riga, in the very heart of Riga’s contemporary and historic cultures with famous Art Nouveau buildings, near famous Alberta street and can host a single artist or artist duo. The apartment (30 m2) consists of one separate bedroom with double bed and studio space with kitchen and sofa.
Artists in Riga will be provided with access to the internet, shared laboratory space, mediatheque, and digital production equipment. For educational programs, workshops and exhibitions RIXC offers the gallery space, as well as its expertise and assistance to artists.
RIXC Fields Residency
RIXC Fields residency, Salinas farmhouse.
RIXC Fields residency is located in a country house (150 m2) Salinas near Talsi city. For artists it offers 3 bedrooms, studio space, a space for field research and workshops as well as a separate building for workshops and a separate greenhouse for artistic growing experiments.
The RIXC Fields residency consists of: 1) the Salinas country house – living facilities (the biggest house); 2) a separate greenhouse; 3) Outer building – workshop house for metal and wood workshops.
The outer building is a place where workshops can be led and conducted, using metal, wood (saw, hammer, etc. provided). The main workshop building is a separate greenhouse to conduct artistic growing experiments, experiments mixing art and biology or use digital technologies for monitoring plants, growth process, etc. In an additional building, there’s a sauna.
The Salinas country house – living facilities (the biggest house) consists of 3 independent parts: 1) studio space, with a second floor balcony with 1 bedroom; 2) second floor with 2 separate bedrooms; 3) ground floor with 2 separate bedrooms and a common living area and kitchen.
Artist fee and accommodation
Artists will be granted with a fee of 500 EUR (per month, tax included) for each accepted artist. This residency also will provide the selected artists with free accommodation and covering their travel costs.
Eligibility
We welcome applications by both – established and emerging* artists. We primarily will accept those applications, in which artists will express their interest in producing new “techno-ecological” artworks, as well as exhibiting or publicly presenting their work, getting engaged with local artists, scientists and communities, and getting involved in other RIXC activities.
*students (BA, MA) are not eligible to apply. PhD researchers are eligible for this residency.
Call is open for the residency in August, 2025 for one Latvian artist and for the residency in November–December, 2025 for one Baltic artist (eligible from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania).
